The launch of a new software package this month will allow publishers of electronic information to efficiently and securely prevent the release of sensitive information in documents released to the public.

This unique software, RapidRedact™, has been developed by Onstream Systems Ltd., a New Zealand based software development company with offices in the USA, the United Kingdom and Asia Pacific. “It will prove a boon for government organizations, legal firms and businesses forced to publish information without infringing privacy legislation and other reporting compliance obligations” according to the company’s marketing manager, Janice Roth.

“It provides a failsafe method of censoring or blotting out sensitive information from documents before they are released for publication,” she said.

Documents that are stored and passed on electronically, carry with them every text change and annotation from the time of first creation RapidRedact™ provides a fast, simple method of redacting sensitive information from office documents including Word, PDF’s and other image documents, and then allowing them to be sent electronically, secure in the knowledge that only relevant data has been published.

“There are some government and business activities where RapidRedact™ will quickly become an essential and practical administration tool,” Ms Roth said, “helping these companies meet requirements for privacy and freedom of information legislation, as well as other compliance obligations.”

“RapidRedact™ ensures the reporting and disclosure of essential information only,” she said, “and plays an extremely important role in protecting both a company’s own, and third party, information.”

Legal firms and technology companies can electronically file briefs or patents after using RapidRedact™ to ensure that private or privileged information is not inadvertently released into the public arena.

The same benefit would apply to manufacturers who need to protect commercially sensitive process and confidential specifications to maintain their competitive edge. “Other areas where the software would prove an invaluable tool,” she said, “include human resource management, the drugs industry where new drug information has to be protected during the research and testing phase, and in maximizing market opportunities.

Developed initially as a Microsoft Windows® plug-in, RapidRedact™ can be integrated with virtually any application.
