Leveraging for Success with UCLA
In a bid to fully assess and access the US
market, Onstream Systems has sponsored a business development project being
conducted by executive MBA students at the prestigious UCLA Anderson School of
Management, USA.
Five MBA students, who are all already
working in senior company positions in the US, have been given the task of
developing a comprehensive Business Strategy Plan for Onstream Systems.
According to Nigel Parry, Onstream
Systems’ general manager – business development, “The objective of the
exercise, is for the team to make recommendations on how best Onstream Systems
can leverage it’s success and boost its penetration of the difficult US
market. “The Anderson School, which has been named by the Financial Times as
the world’s leading executive MBA school, will develop an invaluable,
fully-researched strategy document for Onstream before the end of the year,”
he said. “Team members have already visited our NZ and Australian operations
and customers, with a visit to the UK also being planned,” he said.
“The programme provides amazing value
for us,” Mr Parry said. “The students are effectively completing an
experiential masters-level thesis. This allows them to apply their knowledge of
entrepreneurship, high-technology and management in a strategic, international
and real world context.
“At the end of the day it will determine
the markets where we have potential and ensure we focus on the right markets in
the right places with the right products.”
It is estimated that some 2000 hours will
be put into the preparation of the Business Strategy Plan. Working with the
Anderson School, Mr Parry said, Onstream Systems should cost-effectively gain
both insights in and understanding of the US market that would be difficult for
his organisation to otherwise obtain.
NZ Trade and Enterprise, in Los Angeles,
which works with the Anderson School to find successful high technology small
businesses that are looking to grow their exports into the US market,
facilitated the introduction of Onstream Systems to the school.
Only a handful of international companies
are selected each year, after intensive evaluation, to work with the UCLA
students.
